What should a first aid kit contain in a company according to DM 388

The Ministerial Decree 388, issued on July 15, 2003, establishes the guidelines for managing company first aid in Italy. According to this regulation, companies must equip themselves with specific first aid kits based on the number of workers and the type of risk present in the work environment. There are two types of mandatory kits: those of Annex 1 and those of Annex 2.

First Aid Kit of Annex 1

The first aid kits of Annex 1 are mandatory for companies with three or more workers belonging to group A or group B. These kits must contain:

• Sterile gloves (5 pairs)
• 10% iodine povidone cutaneous solution (1 bottle of 125 ml)
• Saline solution (500 ml)
• Sterile gauze (18 pads)
• Sterile gauze pads 18×40 in single packets (2)
• Disposable sterile drapes (2)
• Disposable sterile tweezers (2)
• Elastic net bandage (1 pack)
• Cotton wool (1 pack)
• Adhesive bandages (1 pack)
• Adhesive tape 2.5 cm wide (1 roll)
• Adhesive tape 5 m x 2.5 cm (1 roll)
• Scissors (1 pair)
• Tourniquet (1)
• Instant ice pack (1)
• Disposable bags for medical waste (2)
• Instructions for use of the kit contents (1 copy)

First Aid Kit of Annex 2

The Annex 2 kits, on the other hand, are mandatory for companies or production units with fewer than three workers that do not fall into group A. These kits must contain:

• Sterile gloves (2 pairs)
• 10% iodine povidone cutaneous solution (1 bottle of 125 ml)
• Saline solution (250 ml)
• Sterile gauze (10 pads)
• Sterile gauze pads 18×40 in single packets (1)
• Disposable sterile drapes (1)
• Disposable sterile tweezers (1)
• Elastic net bandage (1 pack)
• Cotton wool (1 pack)
• Adhesive bandages (1 pack)
• Adhesive tape 2.5 cm wide (1 roll)
• Adhesive tape 5 m x 2.5 cm (1 roll)
• Scissors (1 pair)
• Tourniquet (1)
• Instant ice pack (1)
• Disposable bags for medical waste (1)
• Instructions for use of the kit contents (1 copy)
